Issues For Gals N Boys

Happy Teacher's Day!

Don't know what present to get for your favourite teacher? Here are some suggestions from 4 Gals N Boys.

Our teachers are among the most important people in our lives. This isn't surprising when we consider the fact that we see them almost everyday in our school lives. It's not uncommon for us to look up to them since, apart from our parents, they are the adults whom we have the closest contact with. That is 1st of September has been set aside for us to appreciate what our teachers have done for us day in and day out. Teachers' Day gives us the opportunity to show our teachers just how we feel about them and how much we appreciate the effect they have on our lives.

As predictable as it may sound, one of the best ways to show them our appreciation is to get them a present that will stick in their minds for a long time. But do note that most teachers don't encourage their students to spend too much money - or any money at all - for this special ocassion, so where possible, try to make something yourself or show them your appreciation by telling them how special they are.

Cards N Such

One of the easiest and best ways to do this is to get them a card. You can make this yourself, with a small group of friends or as a class. The message can be as simple as "Happy Teachers' Day!" but whatever is written in it, your teacher will certainly appreciate it. The best thing about getting a card is that you can write your own special message in it and tell him/her exactly how you feel. After all, nothing says it better than words. If you want to save some money, you can design your own card either on a computer or by buying some colorful paper and creating your own design. The personal touch will go down better than a card that is bought at a shop.

Creative Hands

If you're the creative sort and want to make your teacher something more than just a card, you can try to do a cross-stitch piece. But do remember that you should only do this if sewing is your cup of tea. You can sew the first letter of your teacher's name or just a simple design for him/her. If you want to make sure he/she displays your hard work, you can get the piece framed and your teacher will not be able to resist hanging it up on a wall. As sewing a piece will take some time, make sure you plan in advance, so it will be ready come Teacher's Day.

If you're not very creative but you want to make something for your teacher, perhaps you can try some origami. This is easy and simple to learn and all you require are a few pieces of paper. You can either buy a book on origami or borrow one from a library and choose your design, which can vary from an animal to an aeroplane to a piano! It's easy to do and doesn't require much time or money, which makes it an ideal last-minute gift.

Shop N Buy

If you want to buy something for this special day, one suggestion is to get a photo frame. That way, your teacher can put a photo in it and keep it at his/her desk at all times. A better suggestion is to share with a group of friends or the entire class and put a photo of yourselves in the frame, and that's really memorable! Some other suggestions for gifts to buy that will not cost so much include a bag, a handphone pouch, a pen, a soft toy or a pencil case. Or you can get something your teacher can place on his/her desk, such as a pen holder or paperweight.

One simple thing you can do for your teacher on this special day is to share with your whole class and get a nice bouquet of flowers. But this might work better with the female teachers, so you might not want to get it for your male teachers. However, ask any teacher what they want from their students on this day and most of them will say that they just want you to study hard and be good all year round. And that really is the best present you can give them. Just remember to wish them "Happy Teacher's Day!"
